Gonzai
La déviance de l’icône
By Bester Langs

Tribute to the late Dimebag Darrell of PANTERA
Diaz was invited by curator Curse Mackey to paint a tribute guitar.

Sponsored by Dean Guitars.

Six-String Masterpiece

Hand Painted Guitars Designed By Rock and Tat Royalty Pay Tribute to Dimebag Darrell.

The Participating Artist list reads like a who’s who in Rock: Ozzy Osbourne , James Hetfield, Dave Navarro, Ace Frehley, Dave Grohl, Kirk Hammett, Nancy Wilson, Marilyn Manson, Jerry Cantrell, Billy Gibbons, Kerry King, Rob Zombie, Korn and Zakk Wylde, to name a few.

In a fitting tribute to the late Dimebag Darrell, best known as the multi-platinum guitar player for Pantera and Damageplan, "Six-String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute," was created to honor his memory with a collection of Dean ML guitars, each with its own design, unique to the creator.

Daniel Martin Diaz, painted Dean ML Electric Guitar, Oil on Guitar. In honor of the late Dimebag Darrell Abbott, self-taught artist Daniel Martin Diaz invokes a skull with angel’s wings, which portrays the transcendence of the soul into the immortal afterlife. The crown of thorns symbolizes a life unjustly taken with the all-seeing eye in the center. The Latin inscriptions, alchemical symbols, and rustically distressed background are reflective of Diaz’s signature style. Drawing from old masters, Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegal, and Hiëronymus Bosch, both in subject matter and in the ancient egg tempera and resin oil painting technique, Diaz’s depictions have a sincerity that exposes a seemingly endless devotion to reveal a higher meaning through painstaking craftsmanship. His use of a limited pallet on distressed wood, handmade wooden frames, and expressive use of Latin text allows Diaz’s images to thrust us into another time and place, as though resurrecting relics of the past.

The work of Daniel Martin Diaz has been exhibited in over fifty solo and group exhibitions in 15 states, and 8 countries, including two international touring exhibitions and has been acquired for the permanent collections of 12 art museums worldwide. His passionate creations have been commissioned for the PBS Documentary, The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer’s, the CD artwork for the Atlantic Records multi-platinum band, P.O.D., and two large altar pieces for San Antonio de Padua Catholic Church in Guaymas, Mexico.

This is a one-of-a-kind full playable and displayable Instrument of Art. Complete with electronics, pick-ups, strings and hardware installed at Dean USA. It is hand-painted or otherwise decorated by the artist who’s name is associated with the guitar. Proceeds from the auction of this guitar go to support LITTLE KIDS ROCK, one of the most exciting music education programs available to public schools in America. This guitar is one of over sixty pieces created for Six-String Masterpieces: The Dimebag Darrell Art Tribute.

Dimebag Darrell
"I hope this show inspires kids to pick up a guitar or a paint brush, bash on some drums, write some lyrics, whatever it takes to get the frustrations and pain we all feel sometimes out of their system and direct it in a creative or nonviolent way, while at the same time, helping to make these creative outlets more available to those who can most benefit from them."
